Activity(1) with SOLIDS (Primary 6)

OBJECTIVE: To explore the characteristics of solid geometric figures.

MATERIALS: A set of geometric solids

ACTIVITIES: Let the children explore the solids, noting the similarities and differences.  Once they are familiar with them, try the following activities:

Put out three of the objects.  Describe one and see if the children can guess which one it is

• It is flat all over, and each side is the same. (cube)
• It is flat on the bottom.  Its sides look like triangles. (pyramid)
• It is flat on the bottom, the top is a point, and the sides are smooth. (cone)
• Both ends are flat and round, and the sides are smooth. (cylinder)
• It is smooth and round all over. (sphere)

FOLLOW-UP: Have the children take turns being the person who describes the geometric solid.
